Chemical Etching Manufacturing Capabilities
Photo Etching - Photo Chemical Milling
Tech-Etch specializes in the manufacture of light gauge metal parts. The photo etching process (also called photo chemical etching and photo chemical milling) allows us to produce intricate metal components with close tolerances that are impossible to duplicate by other production methods.Tech-Etch is setting industry standards for the manufacture of encoders, masks, filters, lead frames, flat springs, strain gauges, laminations, MicroEtch Screens, chip carriers, step covers, fuel cell plates, heat sinks, shutter blades, electron grids, fluidic circuit plates, reticles, drive bands, haptics, and shims. Titanium etching, tungsten etching and etching of other extremely corrosion resistant materials enables Tech-Etch to produce complex parts for medical tools and implants.
- Photo etching improves flexibility of design.
- Photo etch eliminates costs of hard tooling.
- Allows you to specify more intricate geometry.
- Photo chemical milling shortens lead times.
- Chemical etching permits a wider range of thin materials.
- Photo etching eliminates burring and stress problems.

Forming
Tech-Etch manufactures formed parts by combining photoetching, used for blanking, with inexpensive or universal tooling, used for forming. This method produces burr-free parts in intricate and complex designs and shapes. It also makes it possible to prove your design in preproduction quantities without having to commit to expensive, progressive die tooling.
- Prove your design in preproduction quantities.
- Burr-free parts in intricate and complex shapes.
- 1/2-depth etching for hand forming on applications like board level shielding.
- Heat treatment for enhanced spring qualities.

Laser Machining
The Tech-Etch Laser Machining Center provides additional capabilities and greater tolerance control for thicker materials. A 2.5 KW Mitsubishi CO2 Pulse Laser can cut a wide variety of materials in various thicknesses, and is particularly suited to prototype applications. The High-Peak Pulse feature enables us to provide dross free cutting of all metals, including the reflective metals such as Copper, Brass and Aluminum. By combining laser cutting with etching and forming, Tech-Etch is able to produce accurately thick parts with grooves or pockets that extend only partly through the material.
- Accurately produces thick parts with grooves or pockets.
- Requires no special hard tooling.
- Provides true repeatability and accuracy.

Finishing
Tech-Etch has a full in-house plating and mechanical finishing facility. This includes Gold, Nickel, Electroless Nickel, Copper, Tin, and Tin-lead plating, plus solder hot oil reflow. Electropolishing, surface polishing, and vibratory tumbling are part of the finishing department. Tech-Etch's masking skills can be used for selective plating.

Photoetched Polyimide IOL Haptics
|
 |
Tech-Etch has photo etched precision Haptics for Intraocular Lenses used in cataract surgery and other corrective implants since 1978. Polyimide has material characteristics that make it attractive for this medical procedure, while providing the advantages of a 3-piece IOL. It is optimal for foldable IOL silicone or acrylic lenses. Polyimide offers flexibility comparable to polypropylene and PMMA haptics, with greater tensile strength, and superior shape memory. Since polyimide is safe for implant, additional medical applications can be derived from its shape retention spring properties.

Photo Etched Medical Parts - Titanium Etching and Tungsten Etching
Specialty materials such as tungsten, nitinol, titanium, elgiloy, molybdenum and polyimide have characteristics attractive to the medical industry for implants, springs, cathodes, blades, and stents. Photo etching and precision forming dies offer the flexibility of manufacturing prototype quantities and large production runs without the high cost and long lead times associated with hard tools. Part thickness from .0005" and up. |
